About the Artist

Javier Martinez is a Mexican American born in Los Angeles, CA. He received his BFA in 2000 from California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, CA. He also studied at the Art Center School of Design in Pasadena, CA. Media he works in include painting, drawing, photography, sculpture and film/video. His work has been exhibited in California, New York, Hawaii,Mexico City and Shanghai.

Land, architecture, migration and the concept of home have always informed Martinez’ work. His interest in architecture has prompted a variety of projects both artistic and commercial that explore the harmony between human habitation and the natural world, through design. “Underground Clouds” is a series of drawings on salvaged wood collected from his construction job sites, exploring the relationships between subterranean landscapes and architecture. In this study of the internal and environmental, cross-sections of landscapes take us within the earth, where we find entrance into architecture resembling lungs, stomachs, kidneys and hearts.

The teriyaki on the grilled salmon is sweet and a perfect complement the the rich fish. The fried rice had great flavor. The lemon chicken has a real tang. Making grandma's chile verde recipe

This recipe is a snap, plus my slow cooker does the work. I browned the pork shoulder and seasoned with only a bit of kosher salt. Tomorrow we will get an awesome pot full of carnitas, not to mention the homemade beans I'm working on.
